Zero is the perfect score for manufacturing and safety excellence, and Huntsman Corp., headquartered in Houston, has had zero process-safety-related incidents, zero injuries, zero environmental releases and zero product defects.

Huntsman, a manufacturer of differentiated chemicals, undertook an aggressive program to eliminate injuries, product defects and environmental releases at its Port Neches, Texas, facility. Termed “Project Zero,” the program required a completely mobile solution to empower operations and maintenance personnel to capture defects, track work progress, and make process- and safety-related decisions in real time.

To date, results include a 50 percent reduction in daily pump inspections, process improvements and cost savings due to increased uptime and longer equipment lifetime.
