After a one-year hiatus, Tipsheet, a free monthly technical e-mail series for users of thermal fluids and hot-oil systems from Paratherm Corp., West Conshohocken, Pa., returned with a new installment. Also, though previously delivered without attribution, the technical guide now bears the byline and photo of its author, Paratherm Director of Technology Jim Oetinger.

In the current installment, “Thermal Fluid Properties Debunked: Minimum Operating Temperature,” Oetinger explains two aspects to the low-temperature limit: understanding how cold a startup will the fluid handle, and knowing the lowest fluid temperature that the fluid can handle.

Previous topics have included fluid film temperature; fluid oxidation and contamination; when and how to perform fluid analysis; leakage and combustion issues; how to remove water from a thermal fluid system; and system startup, shutdown and tuning.
