The vertical impingement dryer adds capacity in the dryer section, thus enabling a production and speed increase without additional dryer cylinders.

Metso Paper will deliver a vertical impingement dryer to paper machine PM4 of Steinbeis Temming Papier GmbH & Co. in Glückstadt, Germany. The startup of the dryer is scheduled for May 2009.

The OptiDry will give more drying capacity in the predryer section, thus enabling an increase of approximately 20 percent in the production capacity. PM4 produces magazine papers for heat-set web offset printing and multi-functional papers for office use, all from 100 percent recovered paper, with a grammage range of 57 to 90 g/m2. The machine width is ~15' (4.6 m).

The unit is a rebuild concept to add drying capacity in the dryer section, thus enabling a production and speed increase without additional dryer cylinders. The unit can be installed in an existing dryer section without increasing the machine length, and with a minimal rebuild of the current dryer, according to Metso.
