Walk-in Oven to Heat Rolls for Electric Insulation
An order for a large walk-in oven to heat rolls composed of mica, resin and fiberglass was awarded to Lewco Inc., Sandusky, Ohio, by a global maker of electrical insulation products.
Installed with a pneumatic vertical lift door for to ease loading and unloading, the oven is heated by direct-fired natural gas. It has a maximum temperature of 500°F (260°C) with temperature uniformity of ±5°F (±2.7°C). The door is equipped a safety pawl catch device to prevent it from falling in the event of equipment failure. Due to flammable volatiles present in the workspace, the oven had to be designed to NFPA 86 Class A standards. This provides explosion resistance rather than the alternative explosion relief. The unit also includes a Eurotherm Nanodac temperature controller and redundant high-limit controller.
The finished product has a variety of uses, such as electrical and thermal insulation of various machines and insulation of fire resistance cable.
