Purge vessels typically are used as a second-stage dryer in continuous processes to reduce moisture or VOC content of pellets or powers in the low parts-per-million range. Batch drying processes also can include a purge vessel to efficiently dry and cool a large mass of material. Current uses include drying and cooling two 17,000 lb batches of polymer pellets to 100 ppm of water in less than 8 hr.
