The largest association of pump manufacturers, the Hydraulic Institute in Parsippany, N.J., has endorsed the designation NEMA Premium, a premium efficiency electric motor program established by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). The energy savings potential, particularly in cases where pumps are being run in process-type applications, is significant, according to Robert Asdal, executive director of the Hydraulic Institute.
“Collaborating with NEMA gives us the opportunity to jointly address such issues as industrial systems efficency, energy savings and total life cycle cost,” says Asdal.
NEMA predicts that demand for NEMA Premium efficiency motors will exceed demand for current “energy-efficient” products required by the Energy Policy Act of 1992.
