Emerson Process Management recently won a 10 million contract from Shaanxi HanCheng Second Power Co. Ltd.

Emerson Process Management, Austin, Texas, a business of Emerson, won a $10 million contract from Shaanxi HanCheng Second Power Co. Ltd. to install instrumentation and control systems for the first 600 MW power plant in the northwest China Shaanxi Province.

The new power plant, initially consisting of two 600 MW coal-fired units, will be built near HanCheng City, Shaanxi Province. The plant is needed to meet the rapidly growing demand for reliable power in the region. The project is funded by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.

The cornerstone of the project is the installation of Emerson's PlantWeb digital plant architecture, an automation solution that helps increase generating efficiency and reduce maintenance costs. Emerson's multinetwork Ovation information and control system will be used to control and monitor the plant's boilers, burner management system and plant protection system. Startup for Unit 1 is scheduled for August 2005; Unit 2 is expected to start operations in March 2006.

Emerson's Power & Water Solutions industry center will implement the contract, which encompasses design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, supply, installation supervision, training and commissioning of the plant's information and control system, supervisory information system, management information system, field instrumentation and connectivity, as well as other electrical and related equipment.
