A fire at the Moomba plant earlier this year destroyed much of the existing liquids-recovery equipment, contributing to a substantial forecast downgrade in Santos' 2004 production. The plant now has resumed full production of ethane and natural gas liquids such as propane and butane.
Valued at several million dollars, the equipment was delivered from Chart's heat exchanger plant in La Crosse, Wis., in a record six weeks compared to a more typical 30-week timeframe. The cold boxes were shipped via air freight instead of ocean vessel using one of the largest
airplanes in the world, the Antonov 124-100 long-range freighter.
