A Venezuelan papermaker will install a gas-fired infrared coating drying system from Marsden Inc. to improve quality and enhance overall machine efficiency.
Marsden Inc., Pennsauken, N.J., has been contracted by Smurfit Carton de Venezuela to replace its current gas infrared drying system. Set for August delivery, the new gas-fired system will be used for drying following a wet stack and three separate coating stations producing 100 percent recycled coated paperboard.

The system incorporates Marsden's embedded combustion emitters that generate infrared energy in the medium wavelength range of 2.8 to 3.5 micron. The emitters heat up to full power in 5 sec, cool to the touch in 1 sec and modulate instantly.

“After much review, we felt the Marsden system gave us the best opportunity to improve the quality of our operation and enhance overall machine efficiency,” said Marcello Gil, Smurfit's general manager at the Valencia mill.
