The Megtec Systems unit of Sequa Corp., New York, has acquired the assets of the solvent-recovery business of Calgon Carbon Corp., Pittsburgh. Under a separate multiyear contract, Calgon Carbon will continue to supply the activated carbon needs of the divested business. Terms of the transactions were not disclosed.
The acquired assets include the solvent recovery and distillation operations of Vara Technologies, Vero Beach, Fla.; and the solvent recovery, distillation and VOC abatement systems operations of Barnebey Sutcliffe, Columbus, Ohio, and Sutcliffe Speakman, Lancashire, United Kingdom. Additional technology acquired includes bio-reactor systems.
Commenting on the transaction, Mohit Uberoi, president of Megtec Systems, said, “This acquisition adds substantially to our presence in the gravure printing and chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries, and it brings a well established and highly regarded line of equipment under the Megtec umbrella. Importantly, the technologies resident at the acquired operations add a new facet to our capabilities in pollution control systems. We can now offer customers not only emission abatement but also solvent recovery.”
DePere, Wis.-based Megtec Systems has major operations in the United States, France, Sweden, Germany and China and maintains a worldwide sales, service and spare parts support network.
