Celebrating its 20th year of business in the field of melt pressure measurement for the plastics extrusion market is Winchester, Mass.-based Gefran.
The firm began as Industrial Sensors Inc., with a 10 by 20' office area that offered the plastics extrusion market an alternative for its pressure monitoring and control needs. By the 1980s, the company had grown significantly but still focused on extrusion melt pressure measurement. In the 90s, ISI expanded its melt pressure product line to include pressure transmitters, analog and digital gauges and transmitters for use in hazardous locations. A family of pressure monitoring instrumentation was added in 1992 through a strategic partnership with a German manufacturer. In 1999, Gefran Spa, an Italian-based sensor and controls manufacturer, acquired ISI and the company became known as Gefran.
