
Metso Paper assisted in the rebuild of Stora Enso Varkaus' PM3 paper machine.
To boost machine capacity and product quality, the Varkaus, Finland-based mill of Stora Enso, an integrated paper, packaging and forest products company, completed a rebuild of paper machine PM3. The rebuilt machine is now capable of producing 315,000 metric tons of envelope paper and uncoated fine paper per year.
Metso Paper, headquartered in Jyvaskyla, Finland, supplied a new former and rebuilt the machine's forming and press sections for higher sheet dryness. The dryer section of PM3was equipped with a new tail-threading system and runnability components matching its new production targets. Ropeless tail-threading through the size press also was added. In addition, the finishing section of the machine was upgraded with a new winder designed specifically for uncoated fine paper grades and envelope grades and with an off-machine winder.
