A full-scale, 2,912°F (1,600°C), microwave-assist technology (MAT) elevator kiln is suitable for processing ceramic materials. Processes that will benefit from MAT include sintering, binder burnout and calcining. Developed jointly by Thermex Thermatron LP, Harrop Industries Inc., and Ceralink, the system reduces processing time and energy demands while cutting calcining temperatures due to the microwave technology. According to the companies, the microwave heating enhancement improves traditional kiln technology by combining and simultaneously applying radiant (gas or electric) heat with microwave energy.
