Special Code and Insurance Questions Regarding Batch Ovens
When purchasing an oven, keep in mind that there may be
special codes or insurance needs. The two major specifications which insurance
companies may want businesses to meet include Factory Mutual (FM) and
Industrial Risk Insurance (IRI). FM is an association of mutual insurance
companies that are dedicated to loss prevention. It investigates means of
preventing and minimizing fire and other losses. IRI, formerly FIA, is
comprised of member stock insurance companies, concerned with all phases of
fire protection and other perils insured against by its members.
For further details on which insurance association your
organization must address, contact your insurance agent and discuss with them
the type of equipment to be purchased and what specifications they require, if
any. Keep in mind that oven manufacturers will usually build to your
specifications.
Consult your state’s department charged with regulating this
type of equipment for their compliance requirements.
