ZT Kruszwica has used the algorithms run by the DeltaV system to optimize the process.

The world's largest producer of oilseed and bottled vegetable oils was able to increase production by 10 percent, cut maintenance costs by 50 percent and reduce the use of utilities and raw materials at a rapeseed oil processing plant in Kruszwica, Poland, using Emerson digital plant architecture.

ZT Kruszwica, a subsidiary of Bunge, was built to replace an outdated unit located nearby. When ZT Kruszwica was looking to fully automate the new plant, it selected an automation solution based on the PlantWeb digital plant architecture from Austin, Texas-based Emerson Process Management. The architecture includes the company's DeltaV digital automation system and uses Hart communications to network intelligent devices throughout the plant, including Emerson's Rosemount transmitters and Micro Motion Coriolis flowmeters."

Crucial to the selection of the PlantWeb architecture was our conviction that it would deliver greater efficiency than the PLC-based systems we had evaluated," said Jacek Brauer, ZT Kruszwica, plant automation specialist/automation project team leader. With the Emerson system, "every process across the plant could be controlled and configured from a single engineering station," Brauer noted.

ZT Kruszwica has used the algorithms run by the DeltaV system to optimize the process. As a result, the company has been able to run the plant closer to its maximum capacity without compromising end product quality. Compared with the old plant, production has nearly doubled, from 700 to 1,300 tons/day.
