The forest industry company Oy Metsä-Botnia Ab, Rotterdam, has implemented a uniform group-level flue-gas emission monitoring and reporting solution for pulp production.
Helsinki’s Metso provided the monitoring and reporting applications, which are used in large combustion plants. Each Botnia mill has its own data collection server in which emissions data is collected and processed. Mill servers connect to the main server at a mill in Finland, enabling any Botnia mill to review and compare its operation with the results of another mill via a web-based browser display.
The setup makes it possible to respond quickly to any problems a Botnia mill might have and to benchmark operations against its other mills. The solution enables uniform monitoring and reporting online as well as short- and long-term emissions reporting within the Botnia Group and to the authorities. The setup even allows for proactive emission management and forecasting.
