In a refinery distillation process in Russia, compact heat exchangers will be used where crude oil is preheated in different steps.

Set for use in a refinery distillation process in Russia, compact heat exchangers from Alfa Laval, Lund, Sweden, will be used where crude oil is preheated in different steps. The units will reuse heat from the process for preheating the crude oil, resulting improving energy efficiency.

”This is another example of our compact heat exchangers enabling big energy savings compared with the traditional shell-and-tube technology they are replacing," says Lars Renström, Alfa Laval Group president and CEO.

The units can recover up to 95 percent of the heat that otherwise would be wasted, representing an efficiency increase of slightly more than 40 percent compared with the shell-and-tube technology, the company says.

According to Alfa Laval, there are approximately 300 of its compact heat exchangers installed in Russian refineries.
