Dow Chemical has increased its propylene glycol (PG) capacity by an additional 10 kilotons per annum (KTA) at its Stade, Germany, plant. The increase is part of the second optimization of this large-scale expansion realized in August 2010.

“With our second plant optimization in Stade, Germany, we are continuing to support the growing needs and demands of the pharmaceutical grade propylene glycol [PG USP/EP] market,” says Vincent Lacoste, global strategic marketing manager for Dow Propylene Glycol. “PG USP/EP has a number of growing specialty areas. Our goal is to continue to meet and exceed the needs of these specialty market customers.”

Bringing the total Stade PG site capacity up to 290 KTA, the 10 KTA capacity increase is part of the implementation of an energy and technology optimization project. Midland, Mich.-based Dow did not alter the propylene glycol production process or product offering.
