The Hydraulic Institute seeks qualified individuals to participate in the review process of “Dynamics of Pumping Machinery.”

The new guideline describes and recommends the means to evaluate pumping machinery construction attributes and relevant site characteristics in order to determine the effects of dynamic performance on equipment life and reliability. It also recommends various levels of detailed evaluation commensurate with the degree of application risk and equipment uncertainty.

Rotodynamic pump dynamic response is the result of

  • Excitation forces in the pump or its system, amplified or attenuated by natural frequency resonances or anti-resonances. Excitation forces consist of an amplitude and a discrete frequency (e.g., vane passing frequency) or a frequency span. They can be associated with either mechanical or hydraulic causes.
  • How well the pump is supported by its foundation.

The standard from the Parsippany, N.J.-based organization will consider the influence and control of the excitation forces, natural frequencies and foundation support.
