Minneapolis-based Despatch Industries has implemented manufacturing processes that have reduced lead times by 50 percent, according to the company. Among the changes implemented, the company restructured its manufacturing facility to allow for in-lining of production equipment and assembly stations, which improved flow and minimized production time.

Using a Kanban system, where parts are automatically replenished as they are used, Despatch is able to build ovens as they are ordered while maintaining only a limited stock of ready-to ship laboratory and production ovens, according to the company. The company credits the new system with reduced inventory costs and lead times while allowing the oven maker to maintain product quality.

Delivery times on large, standard ovens have been reduced from eight weeks to four weeks. The delivery time for cabinet ovens with Class A and high temperature requirements is two weeks, and the company’s laboratory oven models ship in three days.
