An online tool allows users to find and compare power inductors based on their exact operating conditions: current, ripple, frequency and ambient temperature. Combining elements of several other popular tools on the company’s site, the Power Inductor Finder from Coilcraft, Cary, Ill., calculates core and winding losses, computes temperature rise, and plots L vs. I curves for up to six parts on the same graph.
Users of the online tool can search for a range of inductances and then optimize search results for size, DC resistance, price and other parameters. In addition to seeing performance at actual ambient temperature, they also can evaluate the effects of self-heating as current is applied. Other features include the ability to move and delete columns; view only selected products; view actual-size photos; export results to Excel or PDF; and request evaluation samples.
