Thermal systems manufacturer Watlow added 25,000 ft2 to its research and development facility in San Jose, Calif. The expansion increases the manufacturing footprint while providing space for an improved research laboratory, a line heating prototype laboratory, a Class 1000 clean room and facilities for additional metrology and analytical instrumentation.
Rob Gilmore, vice president and general manager of the company’s semiconductor business unit, says the expansion gives the engineering team better access to the company’s machine shop.
The first phase of the expansion was completed on July 1 and includes the machine shop and laboratory space. The clean room addition will be complete in December 2014.
Watlow’s San Jose facility previously operated as Semiconductor Tooling Services Inc., which the St. Louis-based company acquired in December 2012.
