A synchronous step-up DC/DC controller replaces the boost diode with a high efficiency N-channel MOSFET to increase efficiency and maximize output current capability. This controller, which produces 24 V at up to 5 A output from a 12 V input, is suited for automotive, industrial and medical applications because its DC/DC converter has low heat dissipation in a small solution size. Model LTC3769 has adjustable cycle-by-cycle current limit protection and uses either a sense resistor or monitors the voltage drop across the inductor for current sensing.
