To comply with the more demanding NOX emission regulations planned for the beginning of 2016, Austrian sugar company Agrana needed to upgrade and replace its combustion systems. The project included three steam boilers with four burners each (50 to 80 to/hr) in its plants at Tulln and Leopoldsdorf. At stake for Agrana was to comply with new emissions limits: less than 100 mg/Nm3 for NOX and less than 50 mg/Nm3 at 3 percent O2 for carbon monoxide (CO).
Fives Pillard Deutschland was awarded the contract to replace the installed equipment with its new LoNOxFlam G2 burners. The scope of the turnkey projects included the delivery of the new burners, accessories, a burner-management system and service.
The Pillard burners were commissioned at both sites, and the target of NOX emission exceeded requirements. Emissions between 60 and 80 mg/Nm3 at 3 percent O2 were achieved for all three boilers. The CO emissions were less than 10 mg/Nm3 at 3 percent O2.
Based in Vienna, Agrana produces sugar, starch, fruit preparation, juice concentrate and ethanol fuel for international markets.
