AP is reporting an explosion and fire today at an ExxonMobil Corp. refinery in Torrance, Calif.
The refinery's flare system was activated to burn off excess fuel that could contribute to the fire, according to fire department spokesman Steve Deuel. Multiple reports suggest that the explosion occurred near a fluid catalytic cracking unit of the refinery.
