Atlas Copco agreed to acquire the Leybold Vacuum business of Oerlikon Corp. for approximately $514 million.

Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum’s vacuum products are used to create clean, particle-free environments for applications such as automotive, metallurgy, coating of microchips and the manufacture of analytical instruments. The business is headquartered in Cologne, Germany, and has around 1,600 employees.

The transaction follows Atlas Copco’s acquisition of Edwards Group Ltd. in 2014, which was the company’s first major step into the vacuum solutions business.
