Tasked with shutting down a steam turbine, boiler system and associated pipelines, Chugach Electric wanted to preserve the equipment at is 53-MW station. The company contacted Cortec Corp., St. Paul, Minn., for treatment chemicals that would help ensure preservation of Chugach’s Unit 8 steam and ensure an easy startup in the future.

The facility had approximately 1,000 ft2 of internal carbon steel piping and vessels located inside the facility and 15,000 ft2 of carbon steel ducting and pipeline that ran outside that had to be preserved while the unit was shut down – for up to three years.
