A contract for a 500°F (260°C) inert atmosphere oven to age rubber parts was awarded to Grieve Corp., Round Lake, Ill.

The inert atmosphere oven is heated with lncoloy-sheathed tubular heating elements. Grieve incorporated features such as a pressure regulator, flowmeter, pressure gauge, sealed inner oven walls, a silicone-rubber door seal, an air jacket on the inner oven for cooling, and a blower shaft seal to provide a stable inert atmosphere during parts aging. Other features include positive-latching door hardware, adjustable-offset door hinges, outlet with pressure relief, gas-tight welded interior seams and compression fittings on all wall penetrations. A 650-cfm pulls air through the air jacket on the inner oven for parts cooling.
