Remotely operated aerial vehicles (ROAVs) were used to complete a commercial internal steam boiler inspection. The inspection at a power company in Bulgaria was the first for Livingston, Scotland-based Cyberhawk Innovations. It was performed to determine equipment integrity and damage assessment on an operational thermal power plant.

Cyberhawk conducts aerial inspections and surveys using ROAVs. The technology was selected for the boiler inspection to reduce the safety risk posed to personnel working at height as well as the restrictions associated with working in confined spaces. Because there was no GPS signal inside the tank, company pilots had to work with an extremely high level of precision during the inspection.
