Four custom steam-heated drum cabinets will help a large dairy company in Saudi Arabia keep up with production. The drum-heating cabinets from Lewco Inc., Sandusky, Ohio, will be used to heat up to 192 55-gal drums at once.
The equipment will be used to heat drums of anhydrous milk fat (AMF) and palm oil. AMF is a solid at ambient temperature, so it must be heated to 97°F (36°C) to mix and blend it with other ingredients and to change states to a liquid.
Due to sanitation requirements, the cabinets are constructed with stainless steel and include NEMA 4X electrical enclosures. The standard controls were upgraded to include a Honeywell eZtrend datalogger that allows the dairy to collect, record and graph current temperatures at each thermocouple. The data then can be analyzed for major temperature changes that could affect the products being heated.
