ElectraTherm shipped its Power+ generator to a biogas facility in Bad Kostritz, Germany. The plant will generate fuel-free, emission-free power while using 100 percent of the heat from several biogas engines to qualify for Germany’s EEG technology bonus, which results in additional revenue and a payback of less than three years.
The generator produces power from low temperature (170 to 250°F [77 to 122°C]) heat. At the biogas facility, it utilizes the waste heat from two or three of the four on-site 540 kWe engines to produce clean electricity that will be sold back to the utility at an incentivized rate. The equipment uses organic rankine cycle (ORC) technology to capture the waste heat from the engine’s jacket water and exhaust.
