Burns & McDonnell Canada contracted Siemens to deliver a gas turbine, a steam turbine, two generators and related electrical equipment for installation at SaskPower's planned Chinook Power Station.
The combined cycle facility – a 350 MW natural-gas-fired power plant near Swift Current, Saskatchewan – is scheduled for operation in the fourth quarter of 2019. It will pair the Siemens’ gas and steam turbines to make more efficient utilization of the fuel consumed by the power plant. This will be accomplished by utilizing the exhaust heat from the gas turbine to generate steam to power the steam turbine.
The equipment will be manufactured in Charlotte, N.C., and Goerlitz and Erfurt, Germany.
