Two custom conveyor ovens will be used by a multinational manufacturer of electrical insulators to cure a proprietary coating. A solvent in the coating required both of the ovens from Lewco Inc., Sandusky, Ohio, be designed to meet the requirements of NFPA 86, Class A ovens. Curing occurs at temperatures up to 248°F (120°C) on the various parts.
Lewco designed two different ovens:
- The first had to meet long dwell-time requirements and fit within a limited space.
- The second had to be integrated with an existing overhead conveyor system and fit within a limited space.
To meet the requirements, Lewco utilized a double-pass conveyor system for the first oven and an L-shaped design for the second, which allowed it to be placed in a corner. The second oven was then elevated near the ceiling so that it could tie into the existing overhead conveyor that runs throughout the plant.
