An electrically heated, enhanced-duty batch oven will be used for preheating and tempering steel components. Wisconsin Oven Corp. shipped the heating system with a powered load car to a heavy equipment manufacturer.

Designed with the capability to heat 15,000 lb of steel at a time per the customer’s requirements, the oven has a maximum temperature rating of 500°F. Guaranteed temperature uniformity of ±10°F (5.5°C) at setpoints of 300 and 500°F (149 and 260°C) were required. A 14-point profile test — conducted in an empty oven chamber under static operating conditions — was performed to confirm the uniformity.

A recirculation system utilizes combination airflow to maximize heating rates and temperature uniformity of the product. The powered load car utilizes a variable-frequency AC drive with electronic torque limiting to move the load in and out of the oven.
