A circulating fluidized bed boiler with a flue gas cleaning system will be part of a biomass power plant to be built in Omaezaki in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The boiler, which was ordered for Omaezakikou Biomass Power Plant, a joint venture operation between Toyo Engineering Corp. and Nippon Steel Engineering Co., will be supplied by Andritz.

Andritz’s PowerFluid boiler are based on circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology to produce steam and electricity from nearly all solid fuels. The boiler will be a key component of the high efficiency biomass power plant for supply of green energy to the national grid. The plant fired will be fired with wood pellets and palm kernel shells as main fuels, and it will generate around 75 MWel of power once operational. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in mid-2023.
