A Midwest manufacturer of adhesive-coated films installed a regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) for the abatement of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) on a coating and laminating line.
The 20,000 scfm oxidizer, designed and supplied by Catalytic Products International (CPI), will control VOC emissions from a curing oven used on the adhesives coating line. The oxidizer is expected to deliver greater than 98 percent destruction rate efficiency and 95 percent thermal efficiency, according to the Lake Zurich, Ill.-based oxidizer manufacturer.
Thermal treatment of VOCs and other air pollutants works by a chemical reaction of the hydrocarbon-based air pollutants with oxygen and heat. In this environment, the VOCs are oxidized to form inert byproducts like carbon dioxide, water vapor and usable heat.
