o Mr. Sandeep Alavandi has more than 20 years of experience in the energy sector. He has worked in the power generation and industrial sector with a focus on low-emissions combustion, alternative low-carbon fuels, energy efficiency and improved plant reliability. He has experience in the design, development, installation and commissioning of multiple technologies across industrial and power sector. He is actively engaged across the value chain with different Original Equipment Manufacturers’ (OEM’s), industrial customers and Investor Owned Utilities (IOU’s) to evaluate and implement decarbonization pathways and technologies.
Decarbonization of Industrial Sector – Pathways, Challenges and Opportunities
The industrial sector is a key contributor to the U.S. economy and is critical to the functioning of the different segments in the value chain. The sector is a significant energy user and emits one-third of the emissions amongst all the sectors in the United States. Decarbonization of the industrial sector will lead to reduced greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), reduced environmental impact and increased jobs. It will also demonstrate the leadership of the U.S. manufacturing sector, enhance competitiveness and spur business growth. The industrial sector is considered hard to decarbonize due to its unique operations and processes. The presentation will discuss the challenges of the industry and solutions that are currently available for decarbonization, including the initiatives from the industry and the government to support and expedite the transformation.
