Fives, a global industrial engineering group, and Steel Dynamics Columbus LLC (SDI) successfully produced the first coil with a new continuous galvanizing line (CGL #3) at SDI’s mini-mill in Columbus, Miss. The first prime coil was produced on schedule July 9 in the midst of a challenging COVID-19 environment.
Ma’anshan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. (Masteel) awarded Fives a turnkey contract to revamp a continuous galvanizing line (CGL) to produce quality coated products. The existing CGL at the company’s site in the Anhui province of China can produce 350,000 metric tons per year of zinc-coated products. Once revamped, it will be able to deliver corrosion-resistant ZnAlMg-coated (zinc-aluminum-magnesium) steel sheet.
The Columbus Flat Roll Division of Steel Dynamics Inc. will invest $140 million to add a continuous hot-dip galvanizing line at its plant in Columbus, Miss. The line, designed and manufactured by Fives, will be capable of producing 400,000 tons per year of unexposed automotive steel grades and specialized steel grades.
