Nearly every industrial process comes with its own indoor air quality (IAQ) challenges. Whether you are engaged in the production of food products, silica chips or chemicals and polymers, keeping workers safe from toxic, irritating or combustible dust and fumes is a necessary priority.
Thermal heat-exchange surfaces are used on vessels for controlling temperature and quality of the contents of the vessel. Heat exchange surfaces can be designed for heating or cooling. Jacketed vessels are used in many industries and can be used to remove the elevated heat of reaction (heat reactor vessel) or reduce the viscosity of high viscous fluids.
Whenever infrared is used to heat, predry, dry or cure continuously traveling web material — or a continuous stream of flat materials supported on a conveyor — there is a risk of a natural phenomenon referred to as the edge-cooling effect. If the material exceeds 24” in the cross-machine direction (CMD) dimension, edge cooling will occur.
Low temperature stainless steel shutoff valves are utilized for on/off control of fuel gas within gas fuel trains in process heating system burners. These systems are widely used by oil-and-gas firms and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that operate or produce gas heating equipment or burner management systems (BMSs) in upstream pipelines and tanks.
Recent energy cost increases and the introduction of anaerobic thermophilic processes as part of wasted industrial process and municipal-sludge digestion has prompted the use of heat recovery exchangers.
As you may notice while turning the pages of this issue, for the first time in more than a decade, Process Heating is publishing a full slate of technical articles instead of our annual Products Guide.
Moore Industries, North Hills, Calif., is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The company designs and manufactures rail, panel and field instruments for industrial process control and monitoring, system integration and factory automation.
Metso received two orders totaling 8,200 valves from major pulp and paper companies in China. Metso will supply Neles ball valves, globe valves and segment valves, as well as Neldisc butterfly valves for on-off duty and control applications.
An integrated system consisting of a processing oven to clean the residual oil present in HVAC coils, combined with an air pollution control system — a thermal oxidizer — will be used by one HVAC coils maker to destruct solvents evaporated during thermal cleaning process. The system was designed and manufactured by Epcon Industrial Systems.
A multifuel power boiler will enable a power plant in Japan to achieve a stable power supply at high thermal efficiency while reducing CO2 emissions. Valmet will supply the boiler to Air Water & Energia Power Onahama’s facility in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture.
Vaisala is issuing a product recall for old models of the Veriteq compact lithium battery-powered dataloggers. The loggers in question were manufactured by Veriteq Instruments and sold as either the Veriteq Spectrum/Model 5 or private labeled by dataTaker as the DT1000-4000 Series.
Officials with Kuraray America Inc. confirmed that a fire occurred at its EVAL facility in Pasadena, Texas, on May 19. According to the company, 21 employees were transported to off-site medical facilities for treatment. Preliminary findings indicate a pressure safety valve released ethylene, causing a flash fire in one of the process units.
A natural-gas-fired walk-in oven will be used by a transportation technology company to heat treat baskets of aluminum parts. The oven, designed and manufactured by Wisconsin Oven Corp., has a maximum temperature rating of 600°F (315°C).
International Thermal Systems was approached by an automotive suspension manufacturer to develop a system that would reduce hydrogen embrittlement from parts after plating. The result was an electrically heated closed loop system where the product is loaded and unloaded at the same spot.
Experts agree that some steam boilers are safer than others – not based on physics but on physical design. But what does safe mean? For at least one professional, staying safe equates to working in an environment that minimizes the potential for personal injury, disability, downtime, productivity shortfalls and worker’s compensation claims.
JPW Industrial Ovens and Furnaces, an industrial oven manufacturer based near Williamsport, Pa., added a second facility to its operation. The new plant is expected to create 25 new jobs within the next two years. JPW’s Plant 2 will manufacture the company’s expanding line of standard industrial ovens.
