ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 34-2001, Designation and Safety Classification of Refrigerants, establishes a simple means of referring to common refrigerants in place of chemical names, formulas or trade names. It also establishes safety classifications based on toxicity and flammability data.

Applications should be submitted to the Manager of Standards, ASHRAE, 1791 Tullie Circle N.E., Atlanta, Ga. 30329. For more information, call (404) 636-8400.

The applications will be reviewed by the toxicity subcommittee, then by the full committee at ASHRAE's 2002 Annual Meeting, June 22-26, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

If applications are approved, then the Standard 34 committee would draft and submit the refrigerants for public review as addenda to the standard.
