The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Brookwood Farms, Siller City, N.C., has voluntarily recalled approximately 31,000 lbs of country ham that may be misbranded. An FSIS inspector at the plant determined that the product did not meet the time and temperature drying requirements to ensure trichinae destruction. The product does not meet FSIS' standard of identity for country ham and is therefore misbranded.

All packages of product are being recalled. All packages bear "EST. 1740" inside the USDA seal of inspection but do not bear a date code. The product was packaged between July 17-26 and was distributed to retail stores in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia and restaurants and institutions in Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.
