Emerson Process Management, Austin, Texas, was awarded an umbrella agreement for the automation of an integrated petrochemical site being constructed by BASF-YPC Co. Ltd., in Nanjing, Jiangsu province in east-central China. A 50/50 joint venture between BASF and Sinopec, the Nanjing complex will consist of a 600,000 ton/yr steam cracker and nine downstream plants. The project is expected to achieve mechanical completion by the end of 2004 and will be put into operation in early 2005.
As main automation vendor, Emerson will work with Integrated Management Team (IMT), the BASF-YPC Company Ltd. project organization, and a number of well-known EPC contractors for the execution of this project. The IMT, based in Nanjing, includes personnel from BASF, Sinopec/YPC and Fluor Daniel.
Emerson will provide its PlantWeb architecture for system integration, engineering and project management services for automation throughout the complex. Emerson also will provide training and maintenance services and the integration of emergency shutdown systems at the complex.
