An autophoretic dip-coating process developed by two German companies eliminates pretreatment and electrodipping in favor of a single-stage system.
Resulting from a joint effort by Dürr Systems GmbH, Stuttgart, and Henkel AG
& Co., Dusseldorf, the new process can lower costs and lower energy
consumption. Aquence, an "auto deposition" process that generates
corrosion protection coatings of variable film thicknesses, also provides
better quality and eliminates a series of processes, say the companies.
Autophoretic deposition occurs out of an aqueous organic emulsion directly onto
a degreased material surface.
When applied, the process generates the coating of iron surfaces only; plastic
materials remain uncoated. The process makes it possible to evenly coat complex
structures both internally and externally, as well as coat complete assemblies
of parts of different materials.
