Atlanta-based Newpoint Thermal LP was awarded a contract from Burns & McDonnell, Kansas City, for the supply of fuel gas treatment equipment to the South Mississippi Electric Power Association (SMEPA). SMEPA is repowering two steam-generating units at the Moselle Generating Station located north of Hattiesburg, Miss.
Burns & McDonnell, a multidisciplinary firm, was selected by SMEPA to provide preliminary engineering, design, permitting, construction management and miscellaneous equipment. Newpoint Thermal will work with both Burns & McDonnell and SMEPA to design, manufacture and deliver fuel-gas-conditioning systems. The equipment will be used to condition fuel gas for combustion turbines.
SMEPA initiated the project to increase the capacity of the plant to accommodate the growing need for more power. The project will add approximately 150 W to the plant’s current capacity. It also is expected to increase the operating efficiency of the existing generating units, resulting in an annual savings in fuel cost for the plant.
