A unit of Charlotte-based SPX will help Midfield Group establish a new dairy powder processing plant in Australia.
SPX Corp.’s Flow Food and Beverage business won the contract for the processing plant, which will have the capacity to produce both whole and skim milk powder. The plant also will include an anhydrous milk fat (AMF) processing line. The completed facility will include several pieces of SPX equipment, including a new preheating process that it says provides longer run times and enhanced evaporation technology. The dairy powder processing plant will utilize SPX's "Triple-A" dryer in the production of high-quality milk powders.
The Midfield Group is one of Australia's largest exporters of meat and has marketed a variety of meat products to dozens of countries around the world since 1995. This will be the company's first dairy processing facility and marks its initial foray into the global dairy industry.
Work on the project will begin in the first quarter of 2015, and it is anticipated the new plant will begin operating in mid-2016.
