Large process equipment users can employ microchannel coils as condensers for air-cooled equipment. The coils deliver better efficiency than traditional fintube coils, says the manufacturer. Standard coils range from 5 to 40 tons and can be used in multiple combinations up to 300 tons in R410a and R134a applications. The systems have up to a 30 percent smaller coil face, says the manufacturer, depending upon the design conditions. Sizes range as tall as 80” and as wide as 120”, and the heat exchangers are thin, light weight and take up less space that comparable non-microchannel coils. Lower compressor head pressures are possible to 115°F condensing temperatures with 95°F air temperatures.
