An inline solution developed by Despatch reduces light-induced degradation (LID), a problem for solar manufacturers. According to the Minneapolis-based oven maker, when the Powerlock LID is integrated into its metallization firing furnace, LID drops to around 1 percent. The LID prevention technology also eliminates the need for material handling and saves floor space, says Despatch.

Using LED lamps allows the dwell time to be reduced, which enables a process that maintains furnace throughput speeds. In addition, the lamps produce twice the lumens per watt compare to arc lamps and have a life expectancy (50,000 hr) that is reportedly 10 times longer than arc lamps.
