The pump test laboratory approval program developed by the Hydraulic Institute, Parsippany, N.J., is intended to help participating organizations adhere to the requirements of the international test laboratory accreditation standard (ISO 17025) concerning test measurement equipment. The new program has already approved the pump test laboratory of HI member company Hydro Inc.
According to HI, the program will help pump OEMs and other pump test laboratories improve laboratory procedures and policies. An experienced third-party auditor helps the facilities develop and maintain accurate, uniform and repeatable pump testing protocols.
Any qualified corporation, research institution or laboratory can participate in the program. Facilities must have in-house capabilities to conduct pump performance tests to HI’s Methods for Rotodynamic Pump Efficiency Testing (HI 40.6–2014) standard. The facilities also must have personnel that understand HI standards, pump testing techniques, and quality systems that ensure continued best practices after the audit. As part of the program, qualified laboratories agree to periodic audits.
The program was designed around the institute’s Program Guide for Pump Test Laboratory Approval (HI 40.7–2015), which summarizes the key elements of this voluntary program. The free guide is available in the HI eStore. For more information or to participate, visit www.pumps.org/40.7.
