Continuous electrodeionization (CEDI) modules are being installed as part of the Quassim Power Plant conversion project on the Arabian Peninsula. The Saudi Arabian Electrical Co. (SEC) project will convert two power generation extensions from simple-cycle to combined-cycle operation, adding more than 120 MW output from each of three new steam turbine generators.

The CEDI modules, manufactured by Evoqua, are expected to help ensure maximum removal of ions capable of promoting corrosion in the Quassim plant’s supercritical steam generators. Two skids of four modules will provide the level of demineralization efficiency required.

The power plant, which is being expanded to meet increasing demand for power in this region, will include three blocks of four gas-turbine generators, four heat-recovery steam generators and one steam turbine generator when the project is complete.
