A chrome-free Yankee cylinder coating promises to provide a tougher and more wear-resistant surface, prolonging the expected lifetime of a heated cylinder, according to the manufacturer.
Valmet says it developed the coating to improve work safety in the coating process and coating sustainability. Also, Infinikote-2 Yankee Metallizing was developed to comply with potential future legislation in both the United States and European Union.
The thermal spraying process of this coating is the same as in previous Yankee cylinder coatings, says the company. A primary change is that the material being applied is chrome-free. In addition, it does not generate any hexavalent chrome during its application. The metallizing coating also reduces dust production and fumes during its application and increases heat conductivity.
